Who We Are
Thank you for your interest in the INnovation Angels, an investment group based in southern Indiana and the Metro Louisville, Kentucky region. Founded in 2011, the INnovation Angels’ meetings provide a forum in which investors may be educated on all aspects of investment and business, as well as introduced to entrepreneurs and the business opportunities they present.
We are not a venture fund, an investment bank, a broker/dealer, investment clearning-house, or an investment adviser. INnovation Angels is not registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or any state securities commission, however, we do require each member to be an accredited investor, as outlined by federal guidelines. Each member is responsible for his or her own investment decisions, and INnovation Angels does not recommend any particular company for investment.read more
What is Angel Investing?
An “Angel” is a high net worth individual who invests directly into promising entrepreneurial businesses in return for stock in the companies. Many are entrepreneurs themselves, as corporate leaders and business professionals. The Center for Venture Research estimates that U.S. angel investors invested $19 billion in 55,000 deals (about 3,500 small businesses) in 2008. Many of the investments were in start-up or very early stage companies. Angels look for very innovative companies that can grow quickly in sales and value (creating jobs along the way). Examples of angel-back businesses include Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Starbucks, Facebook, Costco and PayPal.
In additional to financial capital, top angels mentor and coach their portfolio companies, often leading to more healthy growth. They introduce entrepreneurs to potential customers and investors, see around potential problem areas, and help the start-up firms gain credibility in their fields.read more
How do I join?
If you are an “accredited investor,” we would be happy to have you join us as a guest at one of our upcoming meetings. You will meet our other members and have an opportunity, hear the entrepreneur’s pitches and join in on the discussion afterwards. Our group includes a nice mix of experienced angels and those relatively new to angel investing. When you are ready to join, you can click on this link to our member application page. You will be forwarded to our online sign-up form on the Gust platform. Gust links all of our members and enables them to preview entrepreneurial pitches, interact with entrepreneurs, review their materials, rate their interest and share due diligence information with their fellow angels.
Membership is $1,000 per year, but also includes membership in the P3 Alliance, Purdue’s Angel Network. P3 features technologies and entrepreneurial companies emerging from Purdue University and the Purdue Research Park. INnovation Angels was the first chapter of the P3 Alliance. The relationship effectively means you are able to join two angel groups for the price of one.
